About the People of Publishing Conference

The AALA People of Publishing Conference is a premier gathering designed to bring together literary agents, editors, and publishing professionals for meaningful discussions, networking, and professional development. This event is sponsored and planned by the Association of American Literary Agents.

Unlike other industry events where the focus is on our books and authors, the AALA People of Publishing Conference is dedicated to us—enhancing our knowledge, skills, and capacity to adapt in an ever-changing landscape. Where else will you find sessions on holding auctions, managing submissions, and cultivating editor-agent relationships? We can’t wait to unveil the line-up of speakers and topics. We also are building dynamic opportunities throughout the day for you to network with others and make connections that last.

Last year, we sold out weeks in advance, thanks to agents representing every genre and publishers sending contingents of their staff. We expect a lively crowd again this year, and already have secured commitments from all five of the big houses to send their staff.

Registration will be open to AALA members and non-member agents, editors and other staff in agencies and publishing houses and anyone who works in the business of books. AALA members receive a discount. Please be on the lookout for more information in the coming weeks and subscribe for updates at the bottom of this page. If you have questions, please email us

Clarification on the U.S. Book Show

Our event’s new name reflects a new direction. To avoid confusion, please note that the AALA is not participating in this year’s U.S. Book Show, which will continue separately under Publishers Weekly. The AALA is no longer affiliated with the US Book Show and will not be involved in its programming. We are incredibly grateful to Publishers Weekly for collaborating with us over the past two years. However, after incubating the concept as part of the U.S. Book Show, we are ready to make the conference fully our own, in keeping with the AALA’s mission to serve the publishing community.

If you plan to attend any conference this year, make it the one that is dedicated to you and your success. See you in September!
